Candle Care + Tips
Wick Maintenance
Trim before every light: Keep your wick trimmed to 1/4 inch (6mm) before lighting it each time.
Reduce soot: Trimming stops the flame from getting too large and minimizes black smoke or ash falling into your wax pool.
Clean debris: Remove any clipped wick pieces or dust from the wax surface before lighting.
The First Burn and Memory
Prevent tunneling: This initial melt takes about 2 to 3 hours. Soy wax has a "memory," and getting an edge-to-edge melt pool prevents the candle from burning straight down the middle on future uses.
If tunneling occurs, create an aluminum foil dome over your candle with a small hole on top, light candle and burn long enough to allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges. Or, place under a candle lamp for the same effect.
Burning Rules and Safety
Time limit: Do not burn your soy candle for more than 4 hours at a time to prevent overheating the container and destabilizing the flame.
Avoid drafts: Keep your candle away from open windows, fans, or heavy air vents to ensure a steady, even flame and reduce smoke.
Know when to stop: Discontinue burning the candle when only 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom of the container.
